Portrait artist Nanette Fluhr has oil portraits displayed in both private and public collections world wide. She is an award winning artist that has more than 15 years of professional experience as a portrait painter. After graduating from Rutgers University in 1987, she continued her study at the School of Visual Arts in New York City where she earned her BFA with honors and was awarded the prestigious Rhodes Family Award for Outstanding Achievement. It was at the School of Visual Arts where she met John Frederick Murray, the teacher that would become her mentor, teaching her drawing, painting and picture making skills as they were developed by the old masters. She is most grateful to him for the profound effect his wisdom and insight has had on her painting. Nanette painted museum quality replicas of old master paintings by Rembrandt, Velazquez, Vandyke, Ruebens, Lawrence and Vigee LeBrun while she was a registered copyist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This experience gave her the ability to carefully study these masterpieces and incorporate what she learned from these famous portraits into her own work. The emotions and expressions Nanette brilliantly captures in her portraits have earned her notable recognition. Among her many accolades, Nanette's "Portrait of My Grandfather" was among the top 10 in the nation's largest art competition sponsored by the Artist's Magazine with over 2,300 entries. She was also selected as a finalist the following year for her life-like portrait of "Phyllis." The Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club honored her with their esteemed Martin F. Weber award at their 99th annual exhibition for her "Portrait of My Grandfather" and displayed her portrait of "Phyllis" at their 100th. Nanette Fluhr was honored with the Award of Excellence by the Independent Art Society and the Suburban Art League for two consecutive years. Nanette Fluhr's portraiture has also been featured in exhibitions at the Art-trium, the American Artist's Professional League, Inc at the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club at the National Arts Club in New York City, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the National League of Pen Women, The Art League of Nassau County, The Lever House, The School of Visual Arts, The Art League of Long Island, The Huntington Arts Council and the Hutchins Gallery at C.W. Post College. Nanette is an active member of many prominent art organizations including The Portrait Society of America, and The Museum for Women in the Arts, The Art League of Long Island and the Huntington Arts Council.
